Moldovan producers of early varieties of plums will get a compensation of 1.2 lei per kilogram, a move aimed at alleviating the consequences of the import ban imposed by Russia. Similarly, apple growers will get 1.5 lei per kg and those who grow cucumbers and tomatoes will get 0.8 lei per kg. The decision was adopted by the Government at its meeting today, IPN reports.
The compensation was established taking in consideration the difference between the price that the processing factories are willing to pay for a kilogram of produce and the average market value. It is estimated that this year there will be processed 16,000 tonnes of plums, 56,000 tonnes of summer and autumn varieties of apples, and some 50,000 tonnes of vegetables.
The total amount that is needed to cover the compensations is 143 million lei.
The compensations will be offered through the Agriculture Interventions Agency. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry was instructed to develop within 10 days the procedures of providing the compensations.
