The Cabinet endorsed the agreement between the Ministry of Economy of Moldova and the Ministry of Industry of Belarus concerning the joint project to modernize the electric passenger transport in Moldova, which was signed on January 30, 2013, IPN reports.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said that this is the last step in the assembling of trolleybuses in Moldova, in cooperation with Belarus, from where the necessary parts will be bought. The trolleybuses assembled in Chisinau will be cheaper than those purchased from the Belarusian producer. The new trolleybuses enable to reduce electric power consumption by 35%. Thus, the annual savings in this respect will be 7.4 million lei. The increase of about 22% in the number of passengers will result in higher revenues.
According to Valeriu Lazar, the Chisinau City Hall allocated 46.5 million lei for assembling the first 20 trolleybuses. In the future, after the local demand is satisfied, trolleybuses assembled in Chisinau can be delivered to the neighboring countries.
