Government allots money for first time to renovate architectural monuments

The Government will allot, for the first time, money for the renovation of cultural and architectural monuments of national importance. To this end, 17 million lei will be assigned from the state budget for 2014. The authorities promise 30 million for next year.

Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said during a press conference that the sums are significant, but still insufficient to solve the issue of badly deteriorated architectural monuments.

There no funds for the renovation of the Circus. Monica Babuc explained that the Circus is a company and will find its own sources of financing for renovation. “The Minister of Culture is highly interested in this building and lately we have been doing out utmost to get things going. We found sources of financing through partnerships, we cleaned up the territory and restored the small hall. Soon, shows will be performed there and this is very important for children. But the only solution to revive the Circus is privatization”, said the Minister.

Babuc also spoke about the renovation of the Chisinau Organ Hall, which has started years ago. The project for the restoration of architectural components has a budget of about 22 million lei, but the government alloted only 6 million. The official admitted that without the support of donors, the restoration of many monuments would be impossible.
