Government allots money for Emil Loteanu’s monument at Vagankovo Cemetery in Moscow

The Government decided Wednesday to allocate from the Reserve Fund nearly 133,000 lei to erect a bust to Emil Loteanu at Vagankovo Cemetery in Moscow. The Government’s decision is a response to the criticism levelled six months ago by the head of state regarding the lack of a monument at the artist’s grave. In November last year, President Vladimir Voronin criticised the Government for the fact that Emil Loteanu’s grave in Moscow had no monument. Premier Vasile Tarlev proposed to form a working group headed by the Minister of External Affairs and European Integration, Andrei Stratan, that would operate an official investigation to identify the person responsible for the “negligence” as well as the causes of the lack of a monument at the grave of the great film director. At the same time, Tarlev requested the creation of a second work group, led by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Artur Cozma, also including artists which would work out the design of the monument and would assure its erection in due time. The group headed by Cozma was also authorised to investigate the condition of all graves and monuments of Moldovan personalities so that the “Government would avoid similar situations in the future”. The Government did not announce so far the results of the abovementioned working groups’ activity.
