Government allots MDL 86.3 mln to compensate expenses of “Air Moldova” for carrying Lebanon refugees

The Government will allocate from the Reserve Fund about MDL 86. 3 mln for compensating the expenses incurred by the State Enterprise “Air Moldova” Company for carrying refugees fleeing from the conflict zone in the Near East. The Cabinet took such a decision during the sitting held on Wednesday, March 21. The draft decision does not stipulate how many people have been carried by the company. Several hundreds of Moldovan citizens were repatriated from Lebanon and Gaza Strip. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova (MFAEI) repeatedly stated that no Moldovan citizen suffered as a result of bombardments. Officials from MFAEI stated then that Moldovan citizens were going by bus to Jordan and Syria, from where they took the plane to Bucharest and Moscow, while the repatriation of one person cost about $700. About 240 Moldovan citizens were living in Lebanon at that time, most of them being persons that were married in this country. The war between the Israeli army and Shiite movement Hezbollah of last summer put to flight almost 30,000 foreigners, coming from Romania, Germany, Italy, Austria, who were working in Lebanon or were on a business or tourist visit.
