Government aims at providing every student with a computer by 2020

By 2020 each pupil or student from Moldova should have a personal computer at home, stated Minister of Information Technologies and Communications Pavel Filip, during the “Viata Publica” show at the Radio Moldova station, in the context of elaborating the 2020 Digital Moldova Strategy Project, reports Info-Prim Neo. According to the Minister, ensuring the development of a computerized society bases on three pillars, which form the basis of the Moldova 2020 project, i.e. infrastructure, content and capacities – all must develop simultaneously. Until now Moldova’s good internet development was assured by the digital content that had been offered by the international community. Now the state must get involved in offering the digital informational access, which would imply electronic services that would ease the citizens’ lives. “Besides having good infrastructure and good digital content, we must have good users. On the one hand, this would mean schooling public employees, and the State has the instruments for it. We want functionaries to use the internet, a series of reports should be offered only electronically”, mentioned Pavel Filip. According to the Minister, the development of capacity also means that all pupils and students should have access to a computer. “Here we must set a basis, create the necessary platform for attracting programs that already exist in several countries, meaning that depending on a family’s income the computers may be offered for free or for symbolic prices”, added the Minister. The Ministry of Information Technology and Communications launched the elaboration of the 2020 Digital Moldova Strategy, a policy set that would ensure the necessary conditions for the building of a modern informational society in Moldova.
