Government about Dumitru Robu: It’s time for him to demonstrate his professional skills

Representatives of the government said acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu should start to deal with high-profile cases without any political undertone. For their part, representatives of civil society said the appointment of Dumitru Robu was a correct decision as this is a suitable candidate for the post, IPN reports.

The Head of State on October 6 signed the decree on the appointment of ead HeDumitru Robu as acting prosecutor general following his nomination by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP). The acting president of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Dinu Plîngău said the appointment of Robu was predictable.

“Robu’s appointment is based on three reasons. First of all, his rival would have had more chances if that problem in the tax return hadn’t emerged. Robu served as acting prosecutor general in 2019 too and then he didn’t have a negative image. The way in which Robu was treated after the appointment of Stoianoglo explains why he was chosen – because he does not have the best relations with Stoianoglo. The PAS government knows Robu also by his work in 2019,” Dinu Plîngău stated in the talk show “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

The representatives of the government and of civil society noted that the expectations of the acting prosecutor general are big and this should deliver results as swiftly as possible.

“The country expects that he will do concrete things and will complete cases as he has all the powers to fulfill his professional duties. It’s time for him to demonstrate his professional skills. I hope he will start to handle high-profile cases without any political undertone,” said PAS MP Vladimir Bolea.

“When he held the post of acting prosecutor general, we witnessed unprecedented investigations into the cases of usurpation of state power and things moved on in the bank fraud as well. His political affiliation is in question, but of the existing candidates, Dumitru Robu was the most suitable one. I must yet note that the SCP’s decision was challenged by Alexandr Stoianoglo in the Chisinau Appeals Court and this aspect is to be examined,” said Sorina Macrinici, jurist of the Legal Resources Center from Moldova.

Dumitru Robu held the post of acting prosecutor general in 2019, after Eduard Harunjen resigned as Prosecutor General.
