The leader of the People’s Party of the Republic of Moldova (PPRM) Alexandru Oleinic said the current government must assume the results of the referendums held illegally in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia last Sunday.

“The events in Gagauzia are based on a number of factors that generated the current situation. It’s not a secret that there are enough forces interested in influencing the population to support other projects than the European integration one. But the activism and easiness by which the people in Gagauzia were mobilized to pronounce against the European integration course are also the expression of a vote of no confidence given to the current government. The Governemnt, which since 2010 until now, fueled the political crisis by permanent confrontations between the leaders of the parties of the ruling alliance under the European integration slogan. By politicizing the state institutions, they institutionalized corruption and illegally privatized state property, becoming part of the raider attacks,” said the leader of the PPRM.

According to Alexandru Oleinic, the government didn’t fulfill its electoral promises and its obligations to revitalize the economy and to support the development of the business sector by eliminating the constraints on the part of the state. “The political crisis and the obstacles erected by the state bodies to business development make the Moldovan people leave the country in search of a highly paying job. Those who remain in the country to keep their posts or to obtain a job have to join the political party of which the institution’s manager is a member,” he stated.

Alexandru Oleinic said the opinions expressed in the referendums in Gagauzia should no way divide the country. But the plebiscite results must be obligatorily assumed by the current government. “These results clearly show what will happen in the legislative elections this autumn, when the people of Moldova will appreciate the government’s acts,” stated the leader of the PPRM.
