Godea's proposal to be discussed at Alliance's meeting
The legislative proposal on the election of the President of Moldova presented by unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea will be discussed at one of the next meetings of the Eurointegration Alliance, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Yesterday we had a first discussion on this proposal. There are issues on which we agreed, and there are issues on which compromise is yet to be reached. I have been assured that the Alliance is determined to fulfill its commitments made on March 15. We agreed that the proposal would be examined at the next meeting of the Legal Commission”, said Mihai Godea.
The bill provides that a person may run for President if he or she has the support of a parliamentary faction or of at least 5 MPs. It is also proposed that presidential elections should be called no earlier than 45 days before the expiry of the incumbent's term in office and be held no later than 2 months from the expiry of the term.
Another provision says that the MPs must vote with a special stamp, instead of ticking a box or leaving it blank, and any violation of the secret ballot principle should be punishable by fines of up to 1,000 lei. Further, it is proposed that Parliament may be dissolved only once in thirteen months.
