Godea launches new political movement

Mihai Godea, a former Lib-Dem member, together with other political figures and opinion shapers, launched on Thursday a new political movement named the Alternative Democratic Platform, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Godea explained that the new movement was needed because liberal democracy, although promoted by most parties currently in power, proved to be only a myth that was employed in election campaigns, while genuine reform continued to be a necessity sought by the ordinary citizens. “In fact, the political class in the last two decades has constantly disappointed Moldova's citizens. Most politicians, regardless of political color, originate from the lot of the Soviet Moldavian nomenklatura, who after independence amassed both political and financial power in an illegitimate way”, declared Mihai Godea. The new movement is supported by a number of public figures, including Corneliu Gurin (ADEPT), Viorel Chivriga (IDIS Viitorul), professor Nicoale Covalenco, the business people Natalia Ciobanu and Eugen Buzgan, lawyer Vasile Efros, ministerial adviser Andrei Munteanu, and others. The Alternative Democratic Platform pleads for people's sovereignty, for the existence of responsible and independent democratic parties, for genuine reforms, for a modern economy, equitable social security and decent living standards. The Platform's inaugural resolution reads: “Acknowledging the right of the citizen to protection, stability and a decent political environment, which will afford the citizen democratic alternatives of government, we launch the Alternative Democratic Platform, a sociopolitical framework that combines all the reformatory pro-democratic and pro-European views and that offers viable alternatives of democratic government. The Alternative Democratic Platform is open to every citizen, groups of citizens, parties, political movements, non-governmental organizations and to any other entities that seek to contribute to a real transformation of the Republic of Moldova into a genuinely free, sovereign, independent and democratic state”. Mihai Godea quit as vice-president of the Liberal Democratic Party on May 3 to become an independent candidate for Mayor of Chisinau. In the first round, he polled 0.8% of the vote.
