Glorinal accused of causing quarter million lei damages to nature

The construction Company Glorinal has been accused of damaging nature after cutting down 37 trees in Vadul lui Voda Town, where it planned to raise a building. Ion Caliniuc, deputy head of the Flora and Fauna Inspection Department of the Moldovan Ecologist Movement, told Info-Prim Neo the damages were estimated at 230,000 lei. However, according to Sergiu Gaina, head of company’s legal department, the trees were cut down by unknown person, not by Glorinal workers. Ion Caliniuc says Glorinal bought the 3.553 hectares from Ecohidromas in 2008. Since then, no works had been done, except for the tree cutting two weeks ago. He says that the land is located in the Nistru River Preserve and any tree cutting must be approved by environment authorities. Ion Caliniuc added that if Glorinal didn’t pay the damages the Ecologist Movement would sue the company and the money would be transferred to the National Ecologic Fund. Sergiu Gaina, head of Glorinal's legal department, claims the company learned about the tree cutting from the Ecologist Movement. “We suddenly discovered that trees were cut down without authorization by unknown persons. We’ll ask the police to find out who did it”, he said. He said the company would not begin construction works on the place in the near future.
