9 Moldovan companies and entrepreneurial organizations have joined the Global Compact National Network, Info-Prim Neo reports. They are Vinaria Purcari, SPR Translogistic, SA Floare Carpet, the American Trade Chamber in Moldova, the Employers National Confederation, Lara real estate agency, IMC Leasing, Consulting grup, the Business Club Timpul. Launched in late 2006, the local network of the Global Compact (GC) now has 38 members. PC is an UN initiative promoting corporate social responsibility which has enjoyed support in many countries, as national networks have been set up and joined by prestigious and large companies. Rodica Verbeniuc, the coordinating president of the Moldovan network, says it pursues to promote the concept of corporate social responsibility among Moldovan companies and society in general. In her opinion, now the corporate social responsibility is erroneously understood and reduced to only philanthropic actions. They plan to organize a series of events with different actors of the civil society – NGOs, media, local officials – to put up and discuss initiatives of social responsibility. Verbeniuc says lectures will be read in educational entities to make the youth understand this concept of corporate social responsibility, as agreements have been concluded with three Chisinau-based universities. In October, the National Network of the GC and the UNDP office, the American Trade Chamber, the Eurasia Foundation and other organizations, will organize the second international conference on the issues of corporate social responsibility.
