The head of the Giurgiulesti customs post and a businessman from Chisinau have been arrested and will be heard in the investigation of a corruption case. The duo will be held for 72 hours by the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), IPN reports.

CNA announced that it searched the official’s workspace and home. Simultaneously, CNA searched the premises of a business in Chisinau and the home of its director, seizing various sums of money and documents. The officers also seized the money found on the head of the customs post after a body search.

The investigation began several months ago and targeted a fraudulent scheme of passing goods through the Giurgiulesti customs post without the necessary customs control and procedures. Today, December 23, the officers observed how a container was passed fraudulently through the customs. The investigators and the prosecutors are examining this case and the contents of the container.

In the first 11 months of the year, CNA filed in court 237 prosecutions against civil servants, 70 of which are against of law enforcement officers.
