Girl in hospital after inhaling pepper spray at school
A girl student is recovering in hospital after inhaling pepper aerosol sprayed by a schoolmate in a Chisinau school on Tuesday.
Dr. Eufalia Negrata of the Chisinau Emergency Service has told Info-Prim Neo that the intoxication suffered by the girl was rather light. The patient was discharged the same day after a series of exams at the Holy Trinity Hospital.
According to the school's principal, Aurel Stanca, the case occurred during a break between classes. The police and the ambulance were called immediately.
The officer in charge of the case, Pavel Boicu, says that an eleventh grade boy who brought the spray is to blame for the accident. He told the police he pushed the spray cap accidentally, without knowing what effects the aerosol might produce.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, the head of the municipal Education Department, said that the School Regulations prohibit students to carry things that could disturb or endanger the normal course of the classes. The ban also applies to pepper sprays for their toxic agents, she said.
