Girl in a serious condition after scalding herself with hot water from kettle

A girl of almost two overturned the kettle with hot water staying on the edge of the table when left without supervision for a moment. She scalded herself on 30% of the body. Doctors of the Chisinau National Children’s Hospital “Emilian Cotaga”, where the child was admitted in an emergency, said her life is still in danger, the girl being in a state of thermal shock. If she survives, she will need treatment for a long period of time and plastic surgery.

Burns Section head Gheorghe Vicol has told IPN that the girl is from Ceadir-Lunga. She suffered third-degree burns on the legs, abdomen, thighs and the right shank. The child needs complex treatment for at least three weeks in the hospital and then plastic surgery.

The parents told the doctors that their daughter had been out of sight for several moments, while they were busy with the second child aged three months. Gheorghe Vicol said the accident would have been avoided if the patents had carefully used the hot water in the house.

The parents are warned that no container with hot water as well as hot food and the hot iron should be left within children’s reach, including on the floor or another accessible place.

According to the Health Ministry, the home accidents involve daily six children younger than five. Every week, a child under five dies as a result of an accident at home.
