Girl beaten cruelly by parents for refusing to buy them alcohol
An 11-year-old girl was beaten brutally and chained because she refused to buy alcohol for her mother and her mother’s partner. Maria Vieru, head of the press office of the Prosecutor General’s Office, has told Info-Prim Neo that the child is now at a boarding school in Straseni. Asked by the court if she wanted to return to her mother, the girl said she preferred to remain at the boarding school.
According to the Straseni prosecutors, last December the girl was obliged by her mother and her mother’s partner to go and purchase wine in the village. As she refused, the adults beat her with an electric cable and then chained her to the bed’s leg. The girl remained tied until the next day, when a friend of hers came and released her. The girl needed medical care.
The Straseni district court sentenced the woman and her partner to four years and a half in jail each. It also ordered putting the mother on probation for three years. The decision can be appealed to a higher court.
