Gigantic bench installed in Chisinau square

A new urban installation in the form of a gigantic bench, called The Tree of Life, has been installed in the Opera Square by the social initiative Klumea.

“Through this project we wanted to give an example to everyone, to stop being so discontented with their city and adopt a constructive attitude. Instead of being fault-finding, we encourage people to create and come up with initiatives. This bench features a traditional ornament found on Bessarabian carpets, called The Tree of Life. It's an extraordinary ornament, which this year has also become our country's symbol”, said Klumea founder Nata Albot.

Building urban installations to beautify the streets has become a trend in Chisinau, with more and more pieces of public art appearing each year.

The continuity of this project would be to install at least a bench in every sector of the city that would have some traditions-associated name such as Basil, Vine Leaf, or Four-Leaf Clover. “People should understand that, besides apartment blocks, annexes, kiosks and other constructions that uglify this city, nice things can appear, too, and they should be continued”, said Nata Albot.

The inauguration, which took place on Christmas Eve, was accompanied by carols.
