Five families from the capital, one from each district of the city, have received gifts and financial aid through the “We are Together!” charity event, developed by the Chisinau General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sports. The donations, which come from parents and faculty members from the capital’s preschool educational institutions, were given out on Friday, December 22, during an event that took place at the General Directorate headquarters, IPN reports.
The Buiucani district beneficiary is a family that raises three kids, one preschooler and two school students. The mother, Maria Darie, says that until recently she was the one to give to charity and had never thought that she would one day become a beneficiary. The woman lost her husband to an illness this year, and the family has gone through great hardships since.
Violeta Surdu, head of Kindergarten nr. 26, declared that the institution’s parents and employees have been extremely open to this initiative. “It is very important to develop our children’s sense of empathy. No one knows what his or her future brings. Starting with kindergarten, parents should explain it to their children that some people need help, and get them involved in charity actions, if they have the means, regardless of the nature of their support – moral or material”, added the director.
Angela Monacu, interim head of the Preschool Management Department, mentioned that this charity event has become a tradition. All of the 158 kindergartens in Chisinau are part of this activity and, together with the Directorate aim to bring these families some joy before the holidays. Besides the five families, charity activities continue at the district level, as well as within kindergartens. Families receive toys, food products, hygiene products, clothing and financial aid.
Information and Public Relations Department Head Elena Vorotneac has stated that this isn’t the first time the Directorate organizes such activities, including the Easter holidays as well. “Selecting the beneficiary families is though during an economic crisis. Many tragedies happen, and it is extremely challenging to help everyone, but we have promised ourselves to try to help these families every consecutive year. Through these charity activities, we wish to make not only the holidays merry, but the people as well,” noted Elena Vorotneac.
The Central district beneficiary is a family that raises two girls who lost their father. One of the girls goes to kindergarten, the other goes to third grade in school. They live with their mother, in their grandmother’s house, who is of poor health. The Ciocana district beneficiary is a second grader, a girl who has recently lost her mother, and has been devoid of care by her father. Presently, the girl is in the care of her father’s sister. The Râșcani district beneficiary is a family with three children. The family’s youngest child goes to kindergarten, and her brothers go to school. Their parents are unemployed, yet strive to make ends meet in their difficult situation. In the Botanica district, the aid has gone to a six-year-old boy, left to live with his grandmother after his mother died due to domestic violence.
