Ghimpu will not quit as caretaker president
Mihai Ghimpu does not intend to leave the post of Acting President of Moldova so that it is available for Prime Minister Vlad Filat. “This is an incorrect approach from juridical and political viewpoint,” Mihai Ghimpu said, commenting on two former MPs' scenario for overcoming the constitutional crisis, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Speaker said he dislikes giving advice to Anatol Plugaru and Mihai Petrache, who are jurists by profession. “The dream that Ghimpu will quit as caretaker head of state can become true only when I'm not Head of Parliament or when I'm sick or gone somewhere,” Mihai Ghimpu said.
“The Communist MPs did not vote for the candidate for head of state as they knew I will become acting President. On the one hand, they don't like me, while on the other hand, you see how things stand,” Ghimpu said jokingly.
Asked to say if the scenario proposed by Plugaru and Petrache is possible, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said it was only a viewpoint.
In a news conference on February 24, former MPs Anatol Plugaru and Mihai Petrache said Mihai Ghimpu's resignation was a solution for electing the head of state. According to them, Premier Vlad Filat could replace him in his post, while the Parliament could elect the President of Moldova in two months.
