Ghimpu: Voronin won’t avoid being deprived of his immunity
Speaker and interim President Mihai Ghimpu has declared to the press that deputies will examine the issue regarding the removal of former president Vladimir Voronin’s immunity, even after the Parliament is dissolved, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The present Parliament is active until new deputies’ mandates are validated and it can adopt ordinary decisions and laws, including the removal of one’s immunity”, Mihai Ghimpu stressed. He added that the Liberal Party he leads will vote for the removal of Vladimir Voronin’s immunity.
According to Mihai Ghimpu, all the accusations against Voronin are in plain sight, but the Prosecutor General’s Office is yet to hear him and start the investigation. The Liberal leader referred to the footage from April 2009, showing youth beaten by the police in Great National Assembly Square, and their testimonies regarding the “death corridor”.
The ex-president, Vladimir Voronin could be deprived of his parliamentary immunity, on the request of the PGO. He’s accused of negligence on duty during his presidential mandate, which led to the death of one person during the events on April 7. On September 18, the prosecution against the communist leader had commenced.
