Ghimpu suggests changing AEI Council

The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu believes that a solution to the crisis that hit the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) is to change the Alliance’s Council, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The three leaders – Filat, Lupu, Ghimpu as well as Plahotniuc can withdraw from the Council so that we are replaced by other colleagues who can discuss and find solutions for overcoming the crisis and we could start dealing with the people’s problems,” Mihai Ghimpu said in a meeting with the U.S. Ambassador in Chisinau William Moser on February 1. Mihai Ghimpu said that he cannot understand the circumstances in which the crisis appeared. According to him, these circumstances remind of the situation of 1999, when the Alliance for Democrat and Reforms disbanded, before the EU Helsinki Summit, where a document was to be signed to recognize Moldova as eligible for European integration. Last weekend, the Liberal leader had a meeting with the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel, where they discussed the crisis in the AEI. In a press briefing, Mihai Ghimpu said he was told that the European partners are no longer willing to tolerate the crisis situation in Moldova.
