Ghimpu requests questioning acting prosecutor general over casinos

The chairman of the Liberal Party, MP Mihai Ghimpu proposed questioning acting prosecutor general Andrei Pantea in Parliament over the casinos case, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Why is the case still kept in the drawer? If Ghimpu is to blame, he should receive the indictment. I also demand dismissing Veaceslav Ionita because he spends public money in casinos,” said the Liberal leader. Most of the lawmakers voted in favor of questioning Andrei Pantea. Head of Parliament Marian Lupu took cognizance of the proposal to dismiss the chairman of the parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finance, Liberal-Democratic MP Veaceslav Ionita. “I will draw the conclusions and will act in accordance with the law,” he stated. Mihai Ghimpu and Veaceslav Ionita accused each other of causing damage of about 6 million lei to the state by reducing the casino tax from 360,000 lei to 180,000 lei for a gaming table in 2010. The amendment was included in the law at the suggestion of unaffiliated MP Veaceslav Untila. The lower tax was maintained until February 2011, when the MPs voted for restoring the initial tax.
