Ghimpu renounces post of Speaker, accuses AEI of playing dishonest games
The Liberal Party renounces the post of Head of Parliament and the right to field a candidate for the presidency, the party’s chairman Mihai Ghimpu announced Monday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
In a news conference, the Liberal leader said that the other two parties of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) acted behind the Liberal Party’s back. He also said that Moscow is against his appointment as Speaker, making it clear that some of the politicians of the AEI serve Moscow’s interests.
According to Mihai Ghimpu, the other parties of the AEI did not want the referendum to take place. In the future, the Liberal Party will not accept a constitutional referendum to amend Article 78, only the adoption of a new Constitution. He also said that the PL will vote for setting the date of the presidential elections only when a suitable candidate is identified.
On February 10, the leaders of the AEI announced that they abandoned the idea of holding a constitutional referendum and will look for an apolitical candidate for the presidency, who would be supported by the group headed by Igor Dodon.
