The leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said the representatives of the European political parties with whom they met in Chisinau on Tuesday proposed creating a special commission that would solve the problems related to the election of the head of state. They also suggested that the candidate for the post of prosecutor general should be an apolitical person chosen as a result of consultations with the European Commission. The Democratic Party (PDM) rejected these proposals and submitted its own proposals. Ghimpu made the statements after the January 21 sitting of Parliament was interrupted, IPN reports.
According to Mihai Ghimpu, the representatives of the European political parties proposed that the Liberal Party should remain with the miniseries it managed before the Alliance for European Integration was dismembered – the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Defense.
The Liberal leader noted that the Democratic Party does not want to yield up the Ministry of Transport. As to the depoliticization of the law enforcement bodies, the Democrats agreed to discuss only the applied mechanisms with the EU, not yet the appointment of the prosecutor general. The PDM switches from concrete terms to general ones.
The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat voiced hope that the break taken by Parliament until Thursday, January 22, will help them reach a compromise. He called on all the parties that do not promote the interests of foreign states to think about the people’s welfare.
The January 21 sitting of Parliament was interrupted at the request of the PLDM as the lawmakers could not agree the agenda. Today the MPs were to elect the legislature’s administration.
