Ghimpu in Brussels: PL will do its utmost to avoid early elections

The Liberal Party (PL) will do its utmost to avoid the early elections. A statement to this effect was made by the party’s leader Mihai Ghimpu during a working visit to Brussels on March 11-12, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the PL, among the main issues discussed in the meetings were the situation in the Alliance for European Integration and the possibility of reaching a consensus to overcome the crisis. “We need an alliance for the people, not for those who hold posts, while the current alliance is discredited and we should not compromise Moldova’s European course, respectively the democratic values,” said Mihai Ghimpu. He stressed that the Republic of Moldova doesn’t need early elections. It needs political stability so as to honor all the made commitments. As to the Free Trade Agreement that is to be signed, Mihai Ghimpu said that the document must envision the creation of favorable conditions for developing the activities of the national producers. The European officials urged the Moldovan political class to put the national and European interests on top. They assured that the EU policies on Moldova remained unchanged and the European Union will continue to support the country on the path to European integration.
