Ghimpu: If parties maintain their positions, we will face early elections

If the PLDM and PDM maintain their positions, we will face early elections, the Liberal’s leader Mihai Ghimpu said after the December 16 consultations with President Nicolae Timofti, IPN reports.

The leader of the PL is optimistic and hopes that a solution will be found so that they could form a Government that will work for three years, not three months.

As to the formula proposed by the Democratic Party – the party with the largest number of seats of MP proposes the candidate for Prime Minster – Mihai Ghimpu said they earlier used the same algorithm. “I didn’t say they are right, but confirmed that it was so earlier. If we had distributed the portfolios based on the election results, the PL would have managed now three ministries. We manage four ministries because the formula was based not on the percentage won in the elections, but on the number of MPs,” said the Liberals’ leader.

According to him, the PLDM maintains that the candidate for Premier should be proposed based on the percentage won in the elections, while the PDM considers this should be done based on the number of seats. “If none of them changes the opinion, we will see what decision takes the head of state. I’m afraid we are heading for early legislative elections,” he stated.

The legislation provides that the head of state has the prerogative to field the candidate for Prime Minster after holding consultations with the parliamentary parties.
