Ghimpu confident of ruling alliance’s victory in elections

The president of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu is sure that the parties of the Alliance for European Integration will score a clear victory in the November 28 elections, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Nobody doubts that the member parties of the governing alliance will continue to rule after the elections,” Mihai Ghimpu said on November 26, which is the last day of the election campaign. He stressed the non-Communist parties should win at least 61 seats of MP so as to be able to elect the head of state. The Liberal leader expressed his skepticism about the Communists’ intention to reduce the number of votes needed to elect the President from 3/5 to a simple majority. “They will plunge again the country into chaos if we do not have 61 seats, but we will win them,” said Mihai Ghimpu. He said the current campaign was the first campaign conducted in a correct and democratic way. “The Liberal Party considers that the campaign was free and fair and the election contenders had the possibility of conveying their messages without hindrances on the part of the authorities. The police and the army have not been involved. For the first time, the power did not use the administrative and media resources,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
