Moldova's acting President Mihai Ghimpu next week will convoke the law enforcement bodies to clarify the allegations made by Communist Party leader Vladimir Voronin, who “publicly speculated that the Moldovan authorities came to destroy a dam and kill their own citizens”, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The statements made by Vladimir Voronin are irresponsible and totally groundless. Furthermore, they confirm the fact that the best interests of Moldova and its citizens have never been a priority for Vladimir Voronin; rather he cared for his personal and his party's interests. He needs power in order to make his billions”, said Mihai Ghimpu. The president said that Vladimir Voronin attacked the Moldovan government and neighboring Romania “relying only on speculations made by the media affiliated to his party and on the accounts of an old woman who didn't quite know what she really had heard and what question she was answering”. “To put an end to these speculations I must convoke the heads of the relevant bodies to present information on the case. I will convoke the General Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of the Interior, the Security and Intelligence Service, which have the duty to protect the law and the national security”, said Mihai Ghimpu. “I understand the desire of the political parties to gain as many votes as possible, but this shouldn't be done to the detriment of our country's reputation and national interest”, he added. On Wednesday, PCRM leader Vladimir Voronin alleged at a news conference that the levee near a Moldovan village had been blown up by Romania with Moldova's consent in order to prevent flooding in the Romanian city of Galati, but which caused havoc in four Moldovan villages instead.
