Ghimpu anticipates future head of state will be elected also by Parliament

The leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu considers that the future President of Moldova will be elected also by Parliament, despite the initiatives concerning the election of the head of state by the people. This is how the politician commented on the relevant legislative initiative of the Liberal-Democrats, IPN reports.

“Given the poverty we face, I don’t think that the salvation resides in the President. We will see what happens.  I think the head of state for the next four years will be elected also by Parliament because there is no time to amend the Constitution or to hold a referendum,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said the Socialist MPs will support the Lib-Dems’ initiative because the President must be elected by direct vote, as the people want and as it is good for the country.
