Ghimpu and Basescu will sign a statement instead of agreement
Caretaker President Mihai Ghimpu and his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu will sign a joint statement. During the program “In Depth” on Pro Tv Chisinau channel on April 26, Mihai Ghimpu said that initially they planned to sign an agreement, but owing to the political misunderstandings in Chisinau they will issue only a statement, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Mihai Ghimpu refused to give details about the political dissensions in Chisinau, saying he will provide more information when he returns from the official visit that he will be paying to Romania during April 27-28, at the invitation of Traian Basescu.
Ghimpu said that while in Bucharest he will raise the issue of Moldova's Ambassador to Romania. He will propose Iurie Renita, who is an experienced diplomat, now coordinator of a number of projects.
In Romania, Mihai Ghimpu will be accompanied by several ministers. Among the accords that will be signed in Bucharest are the cooperation agreement between the Parliaments of Moldova and Romania, the agreement on the provision of a grant of €100 million by Romania to Moldova, the agreement on the social protection of the Moldovans who work in Romania, and a cooperation agreement between the Moldovan and Romanian Education Ministries.
After the first day of the visit that will be full of meetings, on April 28 the Moldovan delegation will travel to Suceava and Iasi.
