The head of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said the meeting held with Premier designate Valeriu Strelet in the evening of July 28 was a good one and the answers given to the questions put by them were those expected by the Liberals. “Not the words, but the deeds count. We will see how the new Government works after it is given a vote of confidence in Parliament,” stated Mihai Ghimpu, quoted by IPN.
The Liberal leader said the main questions referred to the methods of overcoming the crisis situation and of ensuring the functioning of a number of state bodies, including the customs and the State Tax Inspectorate, on which the state budget depends.
In another development, Mihai Ghimpu said that MP Gheorghe Brega was fielded for the post of Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the social sector. The three leaders of the Alliance for European Integration are to meet on July 29 too so as to agree the final composition of the Cabinet and finalize the government program.
Valeriu Strelet said the discussions with the representatives of the Liberal Party centered on topical issues, referring especially to the economy and the tax system, and on the Transnistrian dispute. They also discussed the fraud committed in the banking system, the concession of the airport, the rise in tariffs, the possible parliamentary hearings on the issue and the principles of cooperation within the alliance.
According to Strelet, the nominal composition of the Cabinet was 86% agreed and there are yet three vacant posts, including of minister of justice.
Asked about the luxury life he is said to be leading, Strelet said he can any time prove the source of his incomes and expenses, including for the construction of his house, because he keeps the bills and tax returns. “We do not lead a luxury life. The exterior of the house is as it is. My family, which consists of six members, lives an ordinary life,” he stated.
On July 28, Valeriu Strelet had consultations with representatives of the Democratic Party, employers, trade unions and of the academic community. On July 30, he is to meet with people of culture and representatives of civil society and the business community.
