Ghidighici residents want new mayor

The Buicani Court of Chisinau accepted the application to set up an initiative group that will initiate a local referendum to dismiss the mayor filed by inhabitants of Ghidighici village, which forms part of the municipality of Chisinau. In a news conference on December 4, representatives of the assembly that is to create the initiative group spoke about the reasons why they want Ion Beglet to be dismissed from the post of mayor of Ghidighici, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to them, in the local elections of 2007 the residents of Ghidighici voted for Ion Beglet as they hoped he will keep the promises made during the election campaign, but none of the pledges was honored. An assembly was held in Ghidighici on September 24, where the inhabitants decided to start the procedure for discharging mayor Ion Beglet, deputy mayor Alexandru Beglet, the members and the secretary of the local council for not promoting the interests of the community, not adequately fulfilling their duties and for violating the ethical norms. Nocolae Corcinschi, one of the initiators of the dismissal procedure, said there are enough people in Ghidighici who do not trust the present local administration. The court gave the initiative group 45 days to collect signatures in support of the local referendum. Under the Electoral Code, a local referendum can be initiated by 10% of the persons with the right to vote living in a certain territorial-administrative unit. About 4,200 residents of Ghidighici have the right to vote. The mayor can be dismissed by the vote of 50% plus one of the voters.
