Gheorghe Zamfir to give concert in Chisinau

The famous Romanian panpipes player Gheorghe Zamfir will hold a concert together with “Iurie Bors” Orchestra at the National Palace in Chisinau on December 16. The concert is organized by the Chisinau City Hall. The performance starts at 18.00. The program includes modern, classical, folk music and carols orchestrated and arranged by Master Zamfir. Vasile Iovu and Ilian Garnet will give recitals as part of the concert. This year, the Moldovan violin player Ilian Garnet ranked third at the 2009 Queen Elisabeth contest held in Brussels. Zamfir Gheorghe is a musician, artist, performer, composer, writer, painter and professor. In 1990, he became a citizen of honor of the municipality of Chisinau. He composed over 300 works and won numerous prizes and medals, including the Medal of the Vatican, the Cultural Merit of France Order, the Diploma of Don Bosco University in Rome, the prize of Charles Cros Academy, etc. Two weeks ago, Gheorghe Zamfir came to Chisinau for rehearsals. He visited the graves of artists Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorivici, Nicolae Sulac, Maria Iovu and poet Grigore Vieru. Recently, he returned from the United States, where he performed together with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
