Gheorghe Salaru: I understand how parties are cleaned before elections

“The life of minister in Moldova is short, while mine, compared with other cases, was rather long,” Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru said, commenting on the Liberal Reformist Party’s decision to withdraw its political support for him and to propose Deputy Minister of the Environment Valentina Tapis in his place, IPN reports.

Asked by journalists, Gheorghe Salaru said he understands well how the parties are cleaned before elections and he somehow expected such a request by the Liberal Reformist Party (PLR). “In the party there are members with other views or who do not agree with the majority. It’s not excluded that I made mistakes, but we must go on,” he stated. He noted yet that the PLR could have chosen another day for making this announcement, not before the World Environment Day that is celebrated on June 5. “It’s not the nicest present for me and my colleagues,” added the minister.

Deputy Minister of the Environment Valentina Tapis said that she had no influence in this case, while the relations with Gheorghe Salaru remained the same and she betrayed no one, as some assert.

The decision to withdraw the political support for Gheorghe Salaru was taken by the PLR’s Political Bureau following faults identified in the process of implementing the planned environment policies, it is said in a communiqué of the party.
