Gheorghe Duca was re-elected as president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) for a six-year term at the seventh Session of the ASM Assembly, Info-Prim Neo reports. At the start of the session, Gheorghe Duca presented a report on the implementation of the institution’s activity programme for 2004 – 2007. Attending the meeting, Speaker Marian Lupu praised the Academy for the efforts to develop the scientific areas and modernise Moldova made during the past few years. The Speaker described as important the renewal of the techno-scientific basis, the optimisation of infrastructure, the improvement of the legal framework regulating the research sphere with a view to integrating science into the European space. Marian Lupu stressed that the new Code on Science and Innovation gave a new impetus to the field, the Parliament’s press service informs. A library of academic books was inaugurated at the Academy of Sciences on February 21. Also, there were opened the Museum of Science and a permanent exhibition of the achievements of the scientific community of Moldova.
