Gheorghe Balan: Transnistrian regime lives on because we didn’t do reforms in Chisinau

The successful implementation of reforms in Moldova will lead to the reintegration of the eastern districts into the country, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Gheorghe Balan stated in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

“The reunification of the two banks is late because we didn’t do the necessary reforms. It’s clear that the living standards are higher on the right side of the Nistru River. But if our living conditions meet the European standards, the population of Transnistria will swiftly decide to reintegrate and none of the leaders in Tiraspol will be able to stop them,” said Gheorghe Balan.

According to him, the Transnistrian ruble is expected to depreciate two times. “The crisis in Russia and the measures taken by Ukraine at the border seriously affected the economy of the breakaway republic. This can live on only if it maintains the commercial ties with the right side of the Nistru and with the EU member states,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.

Gheorghe Balan also said that Chisinau will not impose restrictions and will not start criminal cases against Transnistrian officials. “We will not follow their example. If they need, they can travel, including through the Chisinau Airport. We will not start political criminal cases either. Time will come when the people from the left side of the Nistru will not take into account the opinions of the Transnistrian leaders,” he stated.
