Singer Geta Burlacu will represent Moldova at 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, held this year in Belgrade (Serbia). Geta won the national final, organised on Saturday, 9 February, in the building of the National Palace, Info-Prim Neo reports. The 12 contestants, singers and bands, sang live their songs especially prepared for the 2008 edition of the Eurovision Contest. The performance of each participant was assessed by a qualified jury, a commission delegated by the public broadcasting company Teleradio-Moldova, and by televoting. The three marks were added to get the arithmetic mean. Thus, Geta Burlacu and Olia Tira each accumulated 12 points, followed by Alexa with 10 points, Galina Shcoda – 8, Elena Demirdjean - 7, Edict band - 6, Catrina Paslaru - 5, Dana Marchitan- 4, Jay Mon – 3, Cristi Ruj - 2 points, Liusia Znamensky and the “SCROOM” band – each by one point. Given that two contestants collected the same number of points, the jury announced their decision after they put both candidatures to the vote. Geta Burlacu obtained the votes of 7 out of 12 jury members. At the pre-selection stage, Geta Burlacu collected 52 points, which placed her on the fourth spot. Geta Burlacu will participate in the semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest, to take place on May 21 in Belgrade, after which will represent our country with the song “A Century Of Love” at the Eurovision 2008 finals, on May 24. Moldova participates the fourth year consecutively in the Eurovision finals after the “Zdob and Zdub” band won the 6th place in 2005. In 2006 Arsenium and Natalia Gordienco occupied the 20th place, and in 2007 singer Natalita Barbu got the 10th place.
