Moldova will be assisted by Germany to become a powerful state from economic viewpoint as well, said Vice President of the German Bundestag Ulla Schmidt, who is on her first visit to Chisinau, IPN reports.
The German official had a meeting with Head of Parliament Igor Corman. After the meeting, she said that Moldova is facing a number of challenges, but discussions are held to identify the necessary solutions. “We assure you of our support for Moldova to become an independent country and its people to have decent living conditions,” said Ulla Schmidt.
She also said that the steps taken by the authorities to improve the situation in the country are correct. After the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU is signed and ratified, the cooperation between Germany and Moldova will be more intense.
Speaker Igor Corman said that special emphasis in the discussions was put on the Moldovan-German relations in the context of Moldova’s European agenda. “This visit is another confirmation of the good relations between the two states. The dialogue is intense. In June, a group from Germany will take part in a forum in Chisinau,” he stated.
He informed that he asked the German Bundestag to ratify the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU because he believes that its ratification in Berlin will be a powerful signal for the other EU member states.
The German official made the visit in connection with the 200th anniversary of the settling of the Bessarabian Germans on Moldova’s territory. On this occasion, there will be opened an exhibition entitled “German traces in Moldova, 1814-2014. Tradition and modernization”. The two officials will attend the opening.
