“The Government of Moldova welcomes the German-Russian memorandum and hopes the political commitment made by the leaders of the two states will help make progress with the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks ,” Premier Vlad Filat said in a pres briefing on June 7. The memorandum was adopted by the German chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev on June 5. Vlad Filat said the document is part of the steps taken to resolve the Transnistrian dispute. The Government welcomes the Russian and German leaders' readiness to help manage the conflicts and crisis situations and will cooperate with all the international players so as to contribute to the settlement of the regional conflicts by observing the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, Vlad Filat said. In this connection, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov said the fact that Russia and Germany have similar positions is a key element that allows reaching agreements. “This memorandum is a hope because more chances appear for the Transnistrian conflict to be solved when the positions became closer,” Victor Osipov said. The memorandum makes Moldova accelerate the process of resuming the official Transnistrian conflict settlement talks and provides grantees that Tiraspol and Chisinau will be supported in their settlement efforts, Osipov said.
