The German Cultural Center AKZENTE of Chisinau is turning into the Goethe Center and will form part of the Goethe international network of institutions specialized in cultural programs and German language programs.
Director of the Goethe Institute in Romania Joachim Umlauf told a news conference that the Goethe Center in Chisinau is the only institution in Moldova that provides such a rich German cultural program. “What we will celebrate today is the result of close cooperation during several years. The cooperation consists in the high-level organization of German language courses, organization of German language exams that are recognized worldwide, training of teachers, implementation of a number of projects aimed at extending the relations between Germany and Moldova, contributing thus to promoting the European values,” stated Joachim Umlauf.
He also said that the number of people eager to study the German program of values and of applications to attend German language courses is on the rise.
Angela Kaya, of the Goethe network in the Southeastern Europe Region, said that for Germany the Republic of Moldova is a very important space, a support-point of cooperation with the neighboring countries. “An efficient cultural dialogue is maintained in the countries in which we work. We identify themes that would facilitate this interconnection of our partners and their cooperation with the partners from Germany,” she stated.
Germany’s Ambassador in Chisinau Angela Ganninger said that Germany’s partners in Moldova include the schools and lyceums where German is studied. The Embassy counsels specialists from these institutions, exchanges information and teaching aids so as to better promote the German cultural program. There is also an academic exchange service for students.
There are 12 Goethe Institutes and 50 Goethe Centers worldwide. In May, Chisinau will house a meeting of German language teachers. A reading club will be created for students to motivate and arouse their interest in the German language.
