German MPs assured that they will ratify the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union this autumn, immediately after they return from vacation, Head of Parliament Igor Codman said in a meeting with German Ambassador in Chisinau Matthias Meyer, who is completing his duties in Moldova. Igor Corman thanked the German authorities for the support provided to Moldova to come closer to the EU, underlining the important role played by the diplomat in this respect, IPN reports.
According to the Speaker, the resolution supporting Moldova’s European perspective, adopted by the Bundestag on July 3 by a majority of votes, is an important signal of support for Moldova. “This is the third resolution, after those of 2004 and 2008, adopted by the Bundestag in sport of Moldova, which confirms the European perspective of our country,” stated Igor Corman.
In another development, the Head of Parliament appreciated the direct involvement of Matthias Meyer in the events staged within the Moldovan-German week, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the arrival of German colonists in Moldova.
The officials also discussed the problems reported by the German investor Draxlmaier, which is a resident company of the Balti Free Economic Zone. The company said it sustained losses of millions of euros owing to the impurities emitted at the wine factory “Vinaria din Vale” when making spirits, which lead to the oxidation of the cables produced by the German company. Igor Corman said the competent authorities will examine the situation and will identify solutions so as to protect the health of the people living in the area and the companies working in the Balti Free Economic Zone.
