George Simion: A mistake was made and I expect apologies

The leader of the unionist platform “Actiunea 2012” George Simion is waiting for apologies from the Moldovan authorities over his expulsion from Moldova. Simion made related statements in the talk show “European horizon” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“I expect they will admit that they made a mistake. It is hilarious to consider namely me a danger to Moldova’s statehood at a time when a foreign army is present on the country’s territory and leaders of the Transnistrian separatist regime come to Chisinau with escorts and the police show them honor. All my activities in the Republic of Moldova were public. I organized cultural events and donated books,” stated George Simion.

He noted that the number of those who are for Moldova’s union with Romania is on the rise. “We expected more than 45,000 people to come to the May 16 demonstration. There were signals from different districts that the local authorities prevented the people from going to Chisinau. Some of the potential participants were phoned and threatened. By expelling me, the authorities just wanted to thwart last week’s demonstration. If 1 million people declare that they want Moldova to unite with Romania, will the Moldovan authorities expel them all?” he asked.

In the same program, Georghe Scarlat, expert of the Black Sea University Foundation, said that by expelling Simion, the Moldovan authorities made a mistake that they must correct immediately. “It was an imprudent gesture. Moldova didn’t need something like this. We should not forget that Moldova is an associate country of the EU and a citizen of the EU was declared undesirable. The Moldovan authorities made use of an antidemocratic, Soviet-like law,” he stated.
