The number of general secondary and primary education institutions in 2016 decreased by 32 units. Currently, there are about 1,300 schools working in the country. Of these, 16 are private, IPN reports.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of institutions in urban areas diminished by six units to 318. As many as 971 schools work in rural areas, by 26 units fewer. Twenty primary schools and six secondary schools stopped work in villages. A number of 23 lyceums changed the status into secondary school, while 22 were reorganized into primary schools.
The about 1,300 primary and secondary education institutions of the country are attended by over 332,000 students. Students with special educational needs study at 15 schools. At the start of the 2016/17 school year, these totaled 860, a decrease of 16%.
