General Prosecutor says it tapped Chirtoaca legally
The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) rejects the statements made on June 8 by the leaders of the Liberal Party (PL) at a news conference about montaging phone talks of Dorin Chirtoaca. “On April 7, in unfolding the inquest on the mass disorders on April 6, the interception and recording of phone conversations were authorized,” the GPO announces in a release quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
On June 7, the private TV channel NIT broadcast a film about the April 7 protests in which interceptions of phone talks of Chisinau mayor were inserted. The PL's deputy president told a news conference his discussions had been montaged.
“The telephone conversation held on April 7, 2009, by D. Chirtoaca is authentic, its being intercepted and recorded being done on the basis of an ordinance of the prosecutor with the agreement of a judge, therefore it is legal and in accordance with the legal inquest procedures,” the GPO states.
The GPO's press service reminds that at the meeting on April 6, 2009, a series of gross violations were established: the organizers and participants blocked the transport flows, there were attempts to damage and overthrow public conveyance units, minors were involved and persons were humiliated, some participants were inebriated.
“Consequently, the penal inquest had been started before intercepting the mentioned conversations. Thus, the statements of the PL leaders are not true and pursue nothing but to mislead and influence the public,” reads the communique of the General Prosecutor's Office.
