General Prosecution Office solicits annulment of the parliamentary immunity of MP

The General Prosecution Office (PG) solicits the parliament to annul the parliamentary immunity of the MP, Vasile Colta in order to hold him responsible for a misdemeanor in one case and for an offence in another. On Thursday, October 26, the Deputy speaker of the Parliament, Maria Postoico presented the MPs a request coming from the PG in this sense. In the first case, the Prosecution Office requests the annulment of the immunity in order to bring the MP to civil account on the case of a road accident, occured on August 20. According to the cited source, Colta, while driving his car, broke traffic rules and injured 3 bicyclists on the road between Leuseni and Chisinau. One of the bicyclists suffered several fractures. In the second case the annulment of the parliamentary immunity is solicited in order to lay an indictment against Colta for smuggling cigarettes. On September 19, Romanian custom-house officers of the Albita frontier-passing point discovered in his car more than 11,000 cigarette packs, valuing more than MDL 120,000. Vasile Colta entered the Parliament on the lists of the “Moldova Democrata” Bloc. After committing these actions, he has been excluded from the „Moldova Noastră” Alliance, and also from the AMN faction at the end of September.
