General educational institutions to benefit from separate funding for teaching degrees

The primary, secondary and high school educational institutions will receive separate funding for providing bonuses for teaching degrees to teachers. The Cabinet modified the funding formula so as to encourage the professional growth of teachers, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the changes will motivate the administration of educational institutions to stimulate the professional development of teachers. “Earlier, the directors allocated money for teaching degrees from the institution’s budget and the amount was higher if the teaching degrees were higher and, respectively, if the number of teachers holding them was higher The new provisions will be implemented following the next adjustment of the state budget law,” Minister Dan Perciun said in the Cabinet’s meeting.

Other amendments to the Government Decision on financing based on standard cost per student, which will enter into force upon publication in the Official Gazette, will also allow second-level administrative-territorial units to support educational institutions from resources accumulated in the district component to cover personnel and maintenance expenses of educational institutions if the resources allocated to the institution are insufficient,  and will enable to review the order of priorities in which these resources can be allocated.

The new provisions will also allow educational institutions to allocate up to 2% of the school budget for the implementation of various projects, giving students the opportunity to get involved and decide their purpose, to solve problems they consider a priority or to create recreational spaces, more comfortable conditions, etc.
