A draft decision on increasing the tariff for maintaining the apartment blocks in Chisinau is included in the agenda of the Municipal Council, which will be held on Thursday, August 3. The General Communal Department once again proposes to increase the monthly paid tariff of MDL 0.19 per one cubic meter of dwelling up to MDL 0.64 for the citizens who live in municipal or departmental apartments. Of those MDL 0.64, MDL 0.28 will be distributed for sanitary needs, MDL 0.26 for repairing the construction elements and MDL 0.10 – for administration expenses. The draft decision also includes approving a list with basic works for maintaining, repairing and administrating the fund of dwellings on the account of the payments made by inhabitants. The General Communal Department solicited the Municipal Council to increase the tariff for maintaining the apartment blocks in December 2005, but the solicitation was rejected without any explanations. The tariff for maintaining the municipal and departmental blocks has been increased for the last time in 1997. Sources from the General Communal Department state that the tariff in force is 11-fold lower than the one economically justified.
