General Assembly of Judges put off

The General Assembly of Judges that was set for October 1 was transferred to December 3. A decision to this effect was taken by the Supreme Council of Magistracy in its September 21 meeting, IPN reports.

The issue was included in the agenda at the suggestion of the SCM acting president Dorel Musteață, who argued that legislative amendments concerning the holding of the General Assembly of Judges need to be made.

When the given issue was reached, the Council members withdrew for deliberations and later announced their decision that was taken by eight votes in favor.

Besides transferring the date of the General Assembly of Judges, the SCM members also agreed the draft agenda of the meeting. This includes the election of six permanent members and two substitute members of SCM - by one from among judges of the Supreme Court of Judges and of appeals court and four from among judges. There will also be elected the members of a number of boards of SCM.
