General Assembly of Judges convened for March

The General Assembly of Judges will take place in March, based on a decision taken by the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) on January 14, IPN reports.

The Council’s acting president Dorel Musteață in the meeting said that the General Assembly of Judges is convoked annually to examine the court reports. It was suggested that the meeting should be held on March 13, starting at 10am.

The agenda of the meeting includes the presentation of reports for 2019 by the Superior Council of Magistracy, the judicial system, the Supreme Court of Justice, on the unification of judicial practice in 2019 and other issues.

An extraordinary General Assembly of Judges
was convened on September 27, 2019 on the initiative of a group of judges, by the decision of the Chisinau City Appeals Court, after the SCM declined the judges’ request to convoke the General Assembly. The meeting decided to dismiss the six judges delegated to work on the SCM.

On September 30, the SCM filed a challenge, asking to annul the September 27 decision as void given that the meeting was convened by evidently violating the legislation.

A new General Assembly of Judges was arranged for October 25 for naming new members of the SCM, but a meeting could not be held as the quorum was not present.
