Representatives of the information center GenderDoc–M are concerned about the negative attitude of the population towards homosexuals. They said that such a state of spirit resulted in threats and attacks on the Center's representatives and persons of nontraditional sexual orientation. In a public letter, the representatives of the Center demand that the lawmakers take measures to clam things down as the people became more aggressive after the Government approved the antidiscrimination bill, Info-Prim Neo reports. GenderDoc-M program coordinator Angela Frolov told a news conference that the MPs are public figures whose opinions are authoritative for those who voted for them and whose words influence the people's attitude. “The statements full of hatred towards a social group made by the MPs as representatives of the power are regarded as calls to take action. The authorities show that they are indifferent and do not want to protect a certain group of people by laws,” said Angela Frolov. According to the Center, members of the organization who defend the rights of homosexuals have been attacked this month and calls are made over the Internet to annihilate the persons of nontraditional sexual orientation. Angela Frolov said the persons who support the homosexuals are attacked, treated rudely, insulted and threatened. “There are persons defending the human rights who are afraid to take their children to kindergarten because extremist groups threaten to make their lives hell,” she said. Anastasia Danilov, executive director of GenderDoc–M, said that she and another two members of the organization have been insulted by a taxi driver in a taxi. “The Center is preparing a complaint letter to the taxi company and a letter to the police. If no decision is taken, we will appeal to court,” she said. Psychologist Svetlana Clivada said homosexuality is not a disease, but one of the five components of human sexuality that is characterized not only by sexual attraction, but also by emotional, romantic and erotic attraction. Homosexuality is not zoophilia, pedophilia and necrophilia. According to the psychologist, most of the homosexuals are born and raised in heterosexual families. They are physically and mentally healthy persons who have the same moral values as the other members of society. The representatives of GenderDoc–M stressed that the antidiscrimination bill does not legalize marriages between homosexuals and adoptions of children by homosexual couples.
